"A Survivor of the Teebane Massacres speaks - the true story 2004"
"I am a survivor of the Teebane Massacre this is my true story of events leading up to the bombing and afterwards.
In which eight men lost their lives and six were severely injured."
"All the information below has been supplied by a Survivor of the Teebane Massacre - Webmaster"
On the 17th of January 1992 at Teebane Cross roads.
17th January 1992 Friday 17th of January 1992 the IRA set off a landmine bomb which killed eight of my pals and seriously injured six more. It will be twelve years this January 17th and no one has been made accountable for this ghastly act 3rd June 1991
To tell this story properly I will go back to 3rd June, 1991. I was working for a company called Karl Construction. I came back to the yard at Ballyrobin Road, to find out that a bomb had gone off and blown up a mobile unit. I was never told to vary my route ie. to go different ways to and from work, or to different jobs that I was sent to do etc.
7th January 1992
On the 7th January 1992 I was at Omagh and I was taking rubble from a UDR camp at Castlederg, to the camp at Omagh I enquired if the army and police were informed that we were in their area and was informed that they knew that we were there from the foreman on the job. I had a strange feeling about the job and I asked the army at Omagh if they knew that we were there, they said that they did not know that we were there and the other workers at Omagh barracks were there for nearly a full year at this job, travelling the same route and time every day and evening. I then went over to the police station and saw the sergeant on duty, he also checked up and he informed us that he had not got any records of Karl Construction ever being at Omagh army camp or any other camp in that area. He told us that he had a good mind to stop us from working at the camp. He also said that it was too dangerous to travel the same route to and from work everyday especially working for the security forces in that area and that we would be (Hit). Which means that we would be shot at or bombed etc. This all happened on 7th January, 1992. We thought ourselves by this stage that it was too dangerous travelling from Antrim in the van, so we paid one of our men to take us in his car.
11th January, 1992
On Saturday 11th January, 1992 we asked at the top yard if we could use the spare van which was at Omagh army camp, we asked the yard foreman and he made a phonecall and said that the request had been refused and that if we did not like it we could all leave.
17th January, 1992
The bomb went off at about 5 pm on 17th January, 1992 between Omagh and Cookstown at a staggered crossroads called Teebane, on our way home from work.
After the bombing.
After the bombing Karl Construction stated that they had sent a fax on 16th of January, 1992 to the police but it all came out at the inquest that NO fax had ever been received. I have all the statements to prove that NO fax was ever received. I also have two statements to state that the police at Omagh police station were never ever informed that Karl Construction had been working at Omagh or Castlederg and that NO action was ever taken to protect us in any way at all. There was also a captain in the army at Castlederg whom we informed, that we were working there in Omagh. He sent out some extra patrols to cover for us while we were working there. He was the only person to send out any patrols the whole time that we were working
there, I have the name of his regiment etc.All the statements and evidence has been sent to the DPP on June,2003 and as yet no answer has been received from anyone. There was supposed to be a decision at the end of the summer as of yet nobody has said anything about the NEGLIGENCE of this company Karl Construction. We were working for the police who we reported to on 7th January,1992 about the dangers of our safety travelling to and from work and when we asked the foreman for Karl Construction to make the phonecall, to ask if we could use the spare van, which was at Omagh army camp we were refused the request . Is " EIGHT LIVES " not worth the lone of
a spare van. I have all the original statements in my possession and if there is anyone out there who could help me to get justice
and the whole TRUTH. Could you please contact me ASAP. Thankyou! Click here to email the webmaster and all information shall be forwarded on.
