"The IRA (Provos) have spy ring details on 2,310 people"
This shows beyond doubt that the Sinn Fein/IRA are still doing what they do best as they gather intelligences for future attacks - There is no peace it is a sham, an illusion created by Blair and his numerous spin doctors who wish only how to apprease Sinn Fein/IRA. Tony Blair and his spin doctors are the enemies of true democracy
Provo Spy Ring Has Details of Over 2,300
A Total of 2,310 people have been warned that their personal details were found in the hands of the IRA spy-ring uncovered at Stormont last year.
Since the police dramatically raided Sinn Fein offices at Castle Buildings and made a number of arrests at locations across Belfast, police officers, prison officers, politicians and loyalist figures have been visited and advised on personal security.
Their names, addresses and other personal information were on seized files and disks.
The extent of the alleged spying operation has been revealed in a response from Secretary of State Paul Murphy to a Commons question by Strangford MP Iris Robinson.
She described the reply as ''very telling'' in terms of the activities of the IRA.
''Since October, 2002, when the Sinn Fein/IRA offices were raided, the PSNI has issued 2,310 notices to persons that their details were discovered on IRA files,'' she said.
''Of the 2310, 1,427 were issued to prison officers, 98 were issued to police officers and 43 were issued to politicians.
''But, of course, it must be remembered that these names were found on the files retrieved by the police.
"How many other lists were made but never found?''
Mrs Robinson said that the statistics ''prove beyond any doubt'' just how detailed the intelligence-gathering operation had been by IRA/Sinn Fein.
''Clearly, this information was for terrorist use at some future period and clearly proves that the republican movement had no intention to walk the peaceful path,'' said the MP.
''Republicans are unquestionably wedded to the twin-track approach of terrorism and politics.''
Stormontgate led to eventual demise of the devolved powersharing Executive at Stormont, as Ulster Unionists said they could no longer sit in government with Sinn Fein while the IRA was so obviously still active in a time of ceasefire.
In the wake of allegations surrounding the Castlereagh break-in and the Colombia three, UUP leader David Trimble said republicans had failed to prove a commitment to peace.
The political process has since been stuck in stalemate, with the UUP demanding total decommissioning and disbandment of the IRA before a return to government.
The failure to find a way through the problems also led to the postponement of elections. Newsletter May 28 2003
